About us
Camino Real Playhouse
In the past 19 seasons we have presented well over 140 full scale theatrical productions including well over a dozen playwriting festivals, and 20 Shakespeare Productions. In addition, we have offered drama classes for both adults and children and have hosted more than three dozen children's productions and our ever popular Old-West Musical Melodramas.
The Camino Real Playhouse is controlled by our non-profit organization's board - the Capistrano Center For The Performing Arts. The board is made up of a select group of theatre patrons and professionals dedicated to the future of live community theatre here in South Orange County. Board members are actively engaged in the operation of the theatre and truly constitute a working board representing a wide cross-section of the South Orange County community. Duties of the Board Members include fundraising, staffing, management, accounting, set design, public relations, managing ticket sales, marketing, advertising, educational enrichment programs, group sales and even website design.
It takes a lot of creativity and energy to continue bringing you the best possible theatre experience at the lowest possible ticket price and there are 4 Theatre Divisions that report to the board. One controls the daily workings of the Playhouse, one controls the future of the Capistrano Center for the Performing Arts as well as management of our facility, one directs our Young Performers Academy ... the Capistrano Acting Academy, and one controls our annual Shakespeare Festival (CapoShakes).
Community Involvment
The Camino Real Playhouse loves to get involved in the Swallows Festival. In San Juan Capistrano's 46th Annual "Swallows Day" parade the Playhouse won the 2nd Place award for walking entries in 2004.
In 2005 playhouse volunteers had a great time coordinating, designing, building, and riding on the Playhouse's first horse drawn float for San Juan Capistrano's 47th Annual "Swallows Day" parade. Although we didn't get any awards in 2005 ... everyone that participated came away as winners bringing community talents together for a day of fun ... in between the raindrops.
In 2006 we won the Fiesta Associations FIRST PLACE award for our "Professor Mack's Traveling Medicine Show" horse drawn float with the entire cast of our record breaking 2006 Melodrama Dirty Deeds at the Depot. For everyone that helped us and got sun burned in the process ... a big thank you! We sang our new theme song "San Juan" and the judges must appreciate good music.
What Can I Do to Help?
Individual donations and grants are critical to relocating our Playhouse. Our dream has been to create an even more encompassing Center for Performing Arts here in San Juan Capistrano. If you have the financial resources to help us ... thank you. If you can donate something of value to the Playhouse to help us on our journey to becoming the Capistrano Center for the Performing Arts ... thank you also. If you just have time on your hands and the desire to make a difference ... call us.
How Advertisers and Sponsors help us achieve our dream?
When advertisers buy space in our programs and corporations sponsor entire performances to help defray ongoing production costs ... we are able to use funds from ticket sales and concessions for much needed technology enhancements such getting a replacement lighting control board for our Main Stage theater or to put more money into advertising for the success of future productions.
