PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL HONORABLE MENTIONS FOR
2009
After the top 7
were selected for production ... we can
never leave good enough alone. There are
always so many great plays submitted that we
include one of our honorable mentions to be
performed at the beginning of each evening
as a Readers Theatre. Here is a list of the
honorable mention plays for this season.
This list (at popular demand) will remain up
for a brief while longer so that the well
deserving playwrights can get an additional
fifteen minutes of fame and maybe get picked
up by one of those intrepid Googleฎ
web-bots.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PLAY FOR
2010

What It Takes To Get Selected for our
Annual Playwriting Festival
First
This is a 10-minute playwriting
festival. Plays under 10 minutes or over 10
minutes are rejected. Even if your short
scene is cute or your one-act is good, it
doesn't count.
Second The work must have a beginning that
grabs your attention, a middle with some
meat and character development, and an
ending that makes sense. It can surprise
you, shock you, make you laugh, make you
cry, make you think, but it must have an
ending.
Third
Everything else! Is the dialog
natural for the characters created? Are the
characters ones that an audience can hate,
love, believe ... is there some emotion
touched? Is it something that an audience
will remember? Something to tell someone
else about? In short, is it a good story!
Rules for
Submitting your Plays
Deadline is October 15th of each year. We target
to announce top 7 plays and honorable
mentions by the second week of December.
Performances begin each year in January with auditions
shortly after the top 7 are announced ...
think early December. A $10.00
per play entry fee is required for
submissions and will be divided and used as winner stipends.
In this way ... should you be chosen by our
audiences as one of the top three plays for
the season ... you will get bragging rights
to say ... "Yes I have had my play produced"
and "Yes I have been paid for writing a
play". As a published playwright the door of
opportunity will e opened to you and a whole
new career could be awaiting you. Who knows
... some day you may be counted in the
company of Thornton WIlder,
Anton Chekhov, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde
and Tennessee Williams. Who Knows.
Now back to the business at hand ... After
we receive your original 10 minute play we
will acknowledge the receipt of your script and
$10.00 fee either by post card or preferably
by e-mail.
Please submit your plays unbound (stapled is OK) with
your full contact info on the title
page.
Important Reminder: All plays must be able
to be performed in roughly 10 minutes..
Submitted
plays can be on any subject
We do like to have one or two quality dramas
along with a selection of comedies, so
consider touching our hearts as well as our
funny bones! We're not able to produce
musicals in this venue, and the audience is
principally adults, so plays for children
are not appropriate, but as a community
theater we want to appeal to the largest
possible audience, so plays with an
excessive amount of @!%#!X* words or graphic
violence need to have an incredible message
... shock value although allowed doesn't
rank a winning vote with most audiences. And
after all you want to win ... don't you? ...
Well don't you?
